Curriculum Content

Please see the table below for the curriculum content studied each term by the year groups 8 to 11.
Pupils begin studying in year 9 for a triple award GCSE which continues into year 10 and year 11.
At GCSE we study the AQA Chemistry Specification.

C1 – Atomic structure and the periodic table C2 – Bonding, structure and the properties of matter C9 – Chemistry of the atmosphere

Year 10

C7 – Organic chemistry

C8 – Chemical analysis

C3 – Quantitative chemistry (except titration calculations)

C5 – Energy changes

C6 – The rate and extent of chemical changes

Year 11

C10 – Using resources C4 – Chemical changes (and titration calculations)

Revision and Exam

Students also have to complete 8 required practicals that may be assessed in detail in the exam. They are as follows:

  • RP1. Making pure salt crystals
  • RP2. Titration
  • RP3. Electrolysis
  • RP4. Temperature changes
  • RP5. Measuring rates
  • RP6. Chromatography
  • RP7. Analysis of unknown substances
  • RP8. Water purification

GCSE Chemistry is examined as two separate papers, at the end of Year 11.
