Vibrant daily assemblies

(collective Worship) with weekly whole school assembly examples include:

  • Christmas, Easter, Coventry Food Bank, Autism awareness
  • Regular Philosophical 6th form assemblies(e.g. ‘Is it all literally true?’, ‘What is love?’)
  • Remembrance Day: moment’s silence, playing the Last Post
  • National Toilet Day assembly:do we appreciate what is on tap?
  • Homophobic prejudice: Alan Turing and war heroes, Pride
  • Anti bullying assemblies (including establishing a student anti-bullying ambassador programme)
  • Safeguarding, Resilience, International Peace day, Growth mindset, Mental Health awareness, Charity projects (via our well established & democratic house system), e-safety (including follow up evenings for parents)


An innovative 6th form pastoral programme ensuring that our students are prepared for the journey they will undertake when they leave Alcester Grammar School into the world of work and university.It also equips young people with so much more than careers: the importance of happiness within, whatever your outside circumstances, how to be resilient to all life throws at you and an awareness of philosophy and the political environment around them.

Y7-11 Tutor Programme:

Devised by Heads of Year to build on assembly themes, school ethos and develop tutor group cohesion.These have year group specific foci, including preparation for careers/work experience, and develop PSHE themes.

Careers Programme

Independent careers advisor delivers assemblies and guidance to individual year groups, organised by careers co-ordinator.


A co-ordinated programme recently overhauled in light of current OFSTED guidance.

Religious Education:

In line with SACRE best practice all students Y7-11 have the opportunity to gain a qualification in RE.RE is taught by two subject specialist teachers (and experienced examiners).The Edexcel exam board is taught which covers the religious traditions of Judaism, Christianity, Islam & Buddhism.At sixth form we offer a Philosophy, Religious Studies and Ethics qualification to A level standard.

Student Council:

Independent group run by sixth form students to provide an active, democratic student voice into how the school is run.Each form group votes for a representative and minutes/action points are shared with SLT, so issues can be addressed.

Elected Students:

The sixth form annually elect a team of students who play a key role in decision making.They meet with SLT regularly and represent the school on numerous occasions.Each of the four houses elect 6th form students to undertake leadership responsibility, including running assemblies and organising house events.Each tutor group in Y7-11 elect a Male/Female sports rep, to co-ordinate numerous sporting activities.Eco-reps take responsibility for recycling and energy-saving measures across the site.

Anti-bullying programme:

A team of student ambassadors trained to co-ordinate the school’s approach against bullying.


School Charities, local and International.Active involvement via tutor group competitions.


Duke of Edinburgh service projects and Community Day (when all Y12 help with projects in the local community.

Happiness Project:

Equipping us all to realise the peace generated by happiness within.

Debating Club:

frequent debates about moral/political issues.

Bar Council Mock Trial:

Each year we enter a team for this prestigious competition.In 2014 students reached the National final.

Educational visits include:

  • Greece: Athens, Corinth, Delphi, Hosios Loukas Monastery.
  • China (visit to Buddhist shrine)
  • India (Hindu Temples)
  • Namibia, Honduras, South Africa working in schools
  • Auschwitz visit (Psychology trip and Student Ambassadors)
  • History trip to Houses of Parliament

Enrichment week trips and activities have included:

  • Year 9: Coventry Cathedral: theme peace and reconciliation.
  • Year 8: Neasden Hindu Temple: attend Aarti ceremony, exhibition on history of Hinduism
    Golden Hillock Mosque, Sparkbrook
  • Year 7: Singers Hill Synagogue, Birmingham
