Outstanding exam results for GCSE and A Level 2017.

PRESS RELEASE - ALCESTER GRAMMAR SCHOOL GCSE RESULTS 2017

Alcester Grammar School is once again celebrating outstanding GCSE results. 67% of all entries were graded at least A or 7-9, and 33% were graded A* or 8-9. Over half the cohort achieved an average of at least an A or equivalent in ten GCSE subjects. Results in core subjects were particularly strong. In English Language, 67% of entries were graded 7-9. In Maths, the figure was 88%, with over a third of the cohort attaining the highest grade on offer – the new grade 9. In the sciences, 73% of entries were graded A*- A, with all students taking rigorous separate sciences. There were many individual successes, and some excellent achievements from students who had faced considerable personal challenges during their GCSE years.
    Clive Sentance, Principal, says:
“Overall it’s a superb set of results and we are really proud of the efforts of our talented and hardworking students. They’ve clearly made the most of the opportunities they’ve had, and so much of that is down to the skills and professionalism of our dedicated teachers and support staff. I’d like to congratulate everyone at the school for the way in which they’ve risen to the challenge, particularly the introduction of tougher GCSEs in English and Maths.
“These excellent results are a strong foundation for moving on to our world-class sixth form, and we are also looking forward to welcoming many high achieving students from our superb local feeder schools.”

PRESS RELEASE - ALCESTER GRAMMAR SCHOOL A LEVEL RESULTS 2017

Alcester Grammar School is once again celebrating superb A level results, with a record 68% of entries graded A*- B. This outstanding figure is even higher (over 82%) for those students who have been at the school for the whole of their secondary education.

Clive Sentance, Principal, says: “Amidst all the headlines about new specifications and exam reform, there are some things that never change. You just can’t beat excellent teaching and exam preparation combined with terrific effort from our students. Once again they are leaving us with the world at their feet, not only with the great results they deserve, but also with the broader skills, attributes and attitudes that come from being part of our wonderful school. We wish them all the very best!”  A third of the cohort achieved grades of at least AAB.  Forty students achieved at least three A grades. It is a tribute to the quality of our local 11-16 schools that half of these students first came to us in year 12.  There are numerous other personal successes across the A level ability range and virtually all students are set for a destination of their choice. AGS has one of the country’s most vibrant and successful sixth forms. It is the only choice in the region that is still giving all students the opportunity to maximise their success by starting 4 A levels in year 12. With over 60% of each A level cohort joining from other schools after GCSEs, the school is renowned for the broad offer of subjects, consistently outstanding teaching and its happy and stimulating environment.
